Aluminium Scaffold for Industry – Key Parameters When Buying
Industrial buyers have different requirements than tradespeople. Read what really matters when selecting aluminium scaffolding for a factory or warehouse.

An industrial buyer and a building tradesperson shop in the same market, but have fundamentally different requirements. The tradesperson needs scaffolding that will last for a project and then sit in a storeroom. The industrial buyer needs scaffolding that will be in active use every day, operated by different users, capable of withstanding an internal audit, and reliable enough never to take a production line out of service due to a defect.
These differences directly influence the choice of product, accessories, and documentation. This article summarises what to focus on when procuring aluminium scaffolding for industrial use.
How Industrial Operations Differ From Construction or Trade Work
Before looking at specific parameters, it is worth naming the differences in the operating environment:
Frequency and intensity. Industrial scaffolding may be in active use 5–8 hours a day, 250 days a year. A construction scaffold may sit in the corner of a storage room for months at a time. This intensity leaves its mark on wear to joints, castors, and surface finishes.
Multiple users. In an industrial workplace, scaffolding is typically operated by multiple employees across different shifts. Each person handles it differently, and not everyone takes the same care of equipment. The scaffold must withstand a higher level of mechanical handling.
Safety audits and documentation. Industrial operations are subject to regular internal and external health and safety audits. An auditor will want to see a Declaration of Performance, certification, inspection records, and a valid user manual in the local language. Inadequate documentation means non-compliance, which means an operational stoppage.
Specific environment. Industrial buildings may have uneven or contaminated floors, high ceilings (10–20 m), operating machinery, and moving materials. The scaffolding must be designed for these conditions, not just for a flat, clean floor.
Key Parameter 1: Load Class
Load classes are defined by EN 1004 and PN-EN 1004
- Class 2: 150 kg/m² — for light work, 1 person plus a small amount of material
- Class 3: 200 kg/m² — for industrial use, 2 persons plus materials
For industrial operations we recommend load class 3 exclusively. This minimises the risk of exceeding the limit in non-standard situations (a larger amount of tools, an unexpected second person on the platform) and provides a safety margin.
ALUBERG 1370 and COSMOS Marte scaffolding are certified to load class 3 as standard.
Key Parameter 2: Version — Standard vs. BLACK Professional
ALUBERG offers two versions for industrial use:
Standard version (ALUBERG 770 / 1370) Suitable for operations with lower use intensity or less mechanical stress. Certification, documentation, and safety parameters are identical to the BLACK range.
BLACK Professional range
Designed for daily industrial use. Differences from the standard version
- Reinforced profiles: greater wall thickness of the aluminium profiles increases resistance to deformation under mechanical impact.
- Surface finish: the dark anodised or powder-coated finish is more resistant to abrasion and mechanical damage.
- Service life: under intensive use (daily operation), the BLACK range works out more economical in the long term, despite the higher initial price.
- Documentation: extended documentation package for industrial audits.
For industrial operations with daily deployment we recommend the BLACK range.
Key Parameter 3: Height and Configuration
Industrial buildings typically have ceiling heights of 6–20 m. For work above 12 m, standard mobile scaffold towers without anchoring exceed the limits set by EN 1004.
What this means in practice:
Up to 12 m (indoors): standard ALUBERG 1370 or COSMOS Marte mobile scaffold in the appropriate configuration, without anchoring.
Above 12 m: the scaffold must be anchored to the building structure, or the operation must move to a tower platform (COSMOS Super Torretta), which is designed for greater heights and intensive industrial use.
When submitting an enquiry, always state the maximum working height — not the ceiling height, but the height at which you will actually be working. This determines the required frame configuration and accessories.
Key Parameter 4: Outriggers and Floor Conditions
Industrial floors are not always perfectly level. Loads from machinery, expansion joints, rails, and floor channels all affect scaffold stability.
For industrial use we always recommend:
Adjustable levelling feet: allow the tower to be levelled on an uneven surface without shimming. Available as accessories for both ALUBERG and COSMOS.
Outriggers: mandatory at heights above the safety threshold set by EN 1004. In industrial operations, we recommend fitting them whenever the configuration reaches half of the maximum permitted height.
Large castors or terrain accessories: for rougher floor surfaces or slight slopes, larger-diameter castors are available that make movement easier and improve stability.
Key Parameter 5: Documentation for Audit
An industrial buyer must be able to produce the following at a health and safety audit:
- Declaration of Performance (DoP) for the scaffold
- Certification to the current version of EN 1004 or PN-EN 1004
- Assembly and operating instructions in the local language
- Records of regular inspections (see our article on scaffold inspections)
- Evidence of user training

What to Include in Your Enquiry

- Maximum working height (in metres)
- Width of the narrowest passage or doorway through which the scaffold must pass
- Number of people who will be working on the platform simultaneously
- Frequency of use (daily, weekly, occasional)

- Whether the operation is subject to industrial health and safety audits
